Spooky Sparkling Bats

Art Glitter and Dreamweaver Stencils are working together this month to celebrate "An Awesome Autumn"!  Today, I have a Halloween bat card to share.  It was easy to make and lots of fun.  let me show you how.

MATERIALS:
Art Glitter Sticky Paper
Art Glitter Ultrafine Pearlescent 143 Glow in the Dark
Art Glitter Microfine Pearlescent 533 Mini Pearl
Art Glitter Ultrafine Transparent 168 Black Light
Art Glitter Ultrafine Opaque 157 Purple Lame
Art Glitter Ultrafine Opaque 79 Black
Dreamweaver Double Stick Mounting Paper
Dreamweaver LL525 Bat Stencil
Dreamweaver Palette Knife
Dreamweaver Black Glossy Embossing Paste
Dreamweaver Stencil LM 2010 Paste Spreader
Scotch Removable Tape
K & Company Patterned Halloween Paper
Black Card Stock
White Card Stock
Adhesive
Scissors
A Pen

DIRECTIONS:
1)  Trace any well sized round object onto Art Glitter Sticky Paper. 

2)  Cut out circle.
3)  Remove protective paper and cover circle with Glow in the Dark Glitter.  Be sure to rub it in with your fingers.

4)  Brush off the excess Glow in the Dark Glitter.

5)  Repeat steps 3 and 4 with Microfine Pearlescent Glitter.  When you use the microfine glitter, it should get between the ultrafine specks and make your paper stay a little whiter.
6)  Remove one side of the Dreamweaver mounting paper and place the "moon" you have created inside.

 7)  Pour a little of the Black Light Glitter around the moon and rub in with your fingers.  This will create the "glowing" effect.  Brush off the excess.

 8)  Pour the Purple Lame Glitter around the edges and rub in.

9)  Place the stencil over the top and tape all the way around the edges with the removable tape.
10) Use the Palette Knife to place Black Embossing Paste onto the Paste Spreader.

 11)  Place the edge of the spreader on the stencil and pull across.

 12)  Remove the stencil and cover the paste with the Black Glitter.

13)  Shake off the excess glitter. 
14)  Assemble the card.

This month Art Glitter is teaming up with Dreamweaver Stencils.  And Clare was so excited to get their stencils and embossing paste in the mail! Clare was sent an owl stencil and fall leaves that I thought would be fabulous for a birthday card.   Art Gllitter is offering 20% off retail for $25 purchase is good with the code DW20 at their online store.  

Clare used the Dreamweaver stencils first as she knew they would need to dry overnight.  This was Clare's first experience with embossing gel and she watched video by Kristi Parker Van Doren on Youtube here.  Before you get started spreading the embossing paste, be sure to tape one side of the stencil to your card stock or project using removable tape.  Note how Kristi angles the spreader before dragging the spreader?  Clare used the Dreamweaver Leaf Texture Stencil with Metallic Gold Embossing Paste and the same tools Kristi did:  palette knife and spreader.   Once you have removed excess embossing paste, carefully lift the stencil, leaving the tape as a hinge.  Then remove the tape and stencil.  By pivoting the stencil along the tape hinge, you are less likely to smudge your paste.  Clare made two embossed fall leaves rectangles to cover the Dreamweaver card front, and allowed this to dry overnight and then cut it to card.  To cover the seam where the two pieces joined, Clare added a ribbon.

For the flower, Clare used a paper flower with Art Glitter's Designer Dries Clear glue and the fabulous Elements called bark.  Clare loves these Elements of the rough and tumble, outdoor and masculine projects!

For the inside owl motif.  Clare used the Dreamweaver Owl stencil and the great fall colors from Art Glitter!  She got instructions on how to do this using another Youtube video by Wendy Jordan here.  If you don't have the Dreamweaver soap you can use Burt's Bees soap.  Notice you don't have to tape this down!  In fact if you do the double sided sticky paper won't pick up the glitter.  Clare actually covered up small sections of the owl stencil with stencil tape to keep areas within the stencil in one color only.  For example, the beak is yellow only, so Clare covered up everything but the leave beak and talons and then applied the Art Glitter Bananan glitter with a fine art paint brush.  Be sure to clean off the top of the stencil like the video shows with a Swiffer cloth or duster and clean off your hands before you remove the stencil as well!

Art Glitter and Dreamweaver Collaboration

Wow this is the best collaboration ever, Dreamweaver stencils are so much fun to use with 

Art Glitter. While I know a lot of the team members will be doing the double glitter technique which I love I decided to use a different technique:

I started my card by taping down my stencil on all 4 sides with removable tape. I then placed Gold Metallic Paste on my Paste spreader using the back side of the palette knife, then paste the image by bring the paste over the stencil at a 45 degree angle from the top to the bottom in a smooth stroke. Remove the tape from the stencil in the reverse order that you put it on leaving the last piece of tape in place as a hinge, then gently lift and remove the stencil. While the paste is still wet, waterfall the glitter over the paste and let dry.

A Tag for Fall Seasons

 

Tags are a fun and exciting way to have smaller pieces of art that can be combined into larger projects.  They are easy to make and share.  This month we have teamed up with Dreamweaver Stencils to combine the fabulous works that can be created using a stencil with the gorgeous beauty of Art Glitter.  Fall is just around the corner and now is a great time to get started on all of your fall creations.  A tag is a great way to create unique smaller pieces that can be a focal point of a larger project and with these wonderful fall leaves and colors who can't look forward to the season?

Extra Supplies Needed:  A natural or soft bar of soap, card stock, patterned paper, ribbon



 

 Begin by rubbing the soap onto the back of the stencil so that it will be easier to remove the double sided paper later on. 

 If there are any small soap pieces caught in the open areas of the stencils, use the brush to remove them. 

Remove one side of the protective coating from the double sided paper and adhere it to a piece of cardstock. The card stock can be cut to the size of the stencil or it can be larger to form a frame around the finished piece.   Next, remove the second protective coating and adhere the stencil to it.

 

Using the Spoon Man! spoon lightly sprinkle several of the glitter colors over the stencil in small areas.  Do not cover large areas or it will be only the one color. 

                            

 

 Lightly rub it with your finger to adhere it to the paper and get the glitter into the crevices of the stencil. 

 

Gently tap off the excess glitter and put into a separate container for later use.  It makes a great mixed of glitters.  Use the brush to help remove the glitter. 

 

Turn the project over so that the paper is to the top and remove the paper from the stencil.  Do not remove the stencil from the paper or you will risk bending the stencil. 

 

You will now have an area of exposed adhesive left.  Lightly cover the entire piece with another color of glitter.  If you use a dark glitter inside the stencil, use a light color of glitter for this step.  If you use a light color inside the stencil, use a dark color on the outside. 

 

Now, create a 3" x 6" tag from the card stock and adhere a smaller piece of patterned paper to it.  Add the ribbon in behind the pieces you just created for a finished look.  Place the glittered stenciled pieces on top and adhere them to the tag. 

 

You now have a great tag to celebrate the fall season.  Be sure to watch for my next post as I continue to turn this tag into an even bigger project.  It's one you won't want to miss.  Now go and get a start on your tag for fall so you're ready to join me on the next part!

Step 1 I took the Maple branch stencil and tape it down using washi tape to my

window card. I wanted it to have just a bit of the leaves on the front of the card.

 

 

Next I used a cotton swab to adhere the metallic f/x onto the card

to outline the leaves.

 

I wanted to trace the outside of the leaves with glitter.

Next I tape down the autumn stencil onto the double sided mounting paper and go to town using the embossing paste. I have not used the paste before but have wanted to try it.

 

I love how it leaves a cool texture to your project

I then added glitter onto the paste and then pulled the template off and added the bright gold

all over the mounting paper.

 

Finally I added a fall ribbon and gold button along with using the Metallic f/x to the front of the card.

This card was created by our Design Team Lead, Kristi Parker Van Doren

This card was created by using a blend of embossing paste from Dreamweaver Stencils.  While the paste was still wet, the glass beads were added.  As a final accent BLING from Want 2 Scrap was added.  All of this was layered on various card stock from Worldwin Papers.

A Closer Look:  You can see the texture of the beads and in the paper.

Vintage Card With Art Glitter & Dreamweaver Stencils

 

Ingredients

• Dream Weaver:  LJ 849 Bare Trees, paste spreader, LL432 Crows, Dreamweaver Pallette Knife, Metallic Copper Embossing paste, Metallic FX #18 Cocoa, #15 Kimona Red and #5 Goldfinch.
• Ranger's Vintage Photo & Walnut Stain Distress ink
• Foam Applicator
• dimensional dots
• scissors
• 3d Foam tabs
• Brown Sugar Baker's Twine
• Vintage Bonanza Button
• Ivory card stock base
• Postcard/Moon Image

Directions

Step 1

Heather started out by using Ranger's Vintage photo distress ink to fill in the Bare Trees Dreamweaver Stencil onto her postcard image.

Step 2

Next she cut out her moon image, added Designer Dries clear glue to the back, then adhered it to her base.  She then placed the Crows Dreamweaver stencil onto her base.  Notice she used scotch magic tape to cover up the one crow, since it and the crows to the left would not be needed.  

Step 3

Next she applied the Metallic Copper Embossing paste over the Crows Stencil with her Dreamweaver palette knife.

Step 4

Heather then removed the excess embossing paste with the Dreamweaver Palette Spreader.  She put the excess paste back into the container.  While the paste was still wet, she added the Cocoa, Kimono and Goldfinch FX mica powders to the Crows. 

Step 5

Heather brushed off the excess FX mica powders with a soft old brush.  She used the Designer Dries clear glue and the Ultra fine Metal Tip to add glue to the trees.  She then applied #300 Camel Glitter.  She took a Black Fine Tip Sharpie marker and outlined the Moon and Crows.  She recommends that you Outline your images first, then add glitter, makes the lines smoother.

Step 6

Heather again used the Trees stencil. She placed it randomly on the Ivory Card stock base, and filled it in using Ranger's Vintage Photo with a sponge applicator.  Only the edges will show, so she didn't worry about the center.  She loves the depth that you get when you replace your stencil, and add more ink.

Step 7

Heather used Ranger's Walnut Stain to distress the edges of the card base, and all of her other pieces of paper.

Step 8

Heather used Ranger's Black Soot and the same Tree stencil to do the same type of stenciling to the Gecko Galz patterned Digital paper.

Step 9

Next she used her Perfect Layer's Ruler to cut a perfect 1/8 inch mat around her piece.

Step 10

Heather cut out the rest of her piece, and used the Sticky Tape to adhere them to her piece.  

Step 11

After she adhered her pieces together, she wrapped the Brown Sugar Baker's Twine around the piece 3 times, then tied a bow.  She also placed foam tabs on the back of her piece.  She also used some large Brown (with white polka dots, but she flipped the ribbon over..so no polka dots showing) grosgrain ribbon on the card base.  Please refer to photo below for placements.

Step 12

Heather then adhered her focal piece to her card base.  Designer Dries Clear Glue and The Ultra Fine tip applicator were used to apply glue to the tabs to the right of card.

Step 13

She applied #300 Camel Glitter to the tabs, then applied glue in the same manner as above to the moon.  She added #305 Goldenrod glitter to the moon and center dots on tabs (lower right). Heather added dots of glue around the perimeter of the black digital paper.  

Step 14

Black Vinyl Glitter added to the dots of glue finish off the card.

Heather loves the depth and texture she was able to achieve using the Art Glitter,  FX mica powders and Embossing Paste! They all work so well together...to give her Haunting Halloween card that extra touch!
