Something Borrowed & Something Blue Momento Box

This memento box makes the perfect gift for all of your treasured wedding items.  It is made especially with the bride in mind to keep those borrowed and blue items in.  Use it to make sure they get to the ceremony safely and after the wedding is over; store those special items inside to treasure always.  They make a nice gift for the bridesmaids, too. The gorgeous products from Art Glitter and Authentique makes this box a special memory in itself.

Supplies:
   From Art Glitter:
Lemone Ultrafine Transparent Glitter                           From Authentique Paper Company:
Crystal Ultrafine Transparent Glitter                      "Summer Three" from the Seasons Collection
Confetti Vintage Diamond Dust                             "Summer One"    from the Seasons Collection
     Diamond Dust Vintage Glass Glitter

Also needed:  Blue and Yellow Paint to Match ( I used Calypso Blue and Golden Straw by Americana), Paper Mache Round Box, Paintbrushes, Several Cotton Balls, Scissors, Paper Trimmer (optional) and 1/4" white ribbon.

After painting the box and allowing to dry, measure the circumference of your box to determine the length of the paper you will need.  For this box, it measures 24" round so I cut 2 strips of the "Summer One" paper that were 12" in length and 3" wide.  I wanted the opening in the front for the paint to show through in a small area so I decided how much space to leave open and then cut the excess of the back of the box where the two strips meet and then adhered it down.

Take a cotton ball dipped lightly into the Designer Dries Clear Glue and then dab it onto a paper towel to remove excess.  Lightly pounce it in small sections on the edge of the lid.  Sprinkle the Diamond Dust Vintage Glass Glitter onto the glue and allow to dry.  Also, using a paint brush lightly spread some glue onto the open area left on the box between the 2 strips of paper.  Sprinkle some of the Diamond Dust onto it, too, and allow to dry. Tap off the excess from both pieces and replace it into the jar.

Spread the Designer Dries Clear Glue using the foam brush in small areas.  Using your fingers sprinkle Crystal Ultrafine Glitter over the top of the glue working quickly so the glue does not dry before covering it with the glitter.  Continue doing this until you have covered all of the lid.

Spread the Designer Dries Clear Glue in small sections on the side and sprinkle some of the Lemone glitter over it with your fingers until you have completely worked around the outside of the box.

Cut 4 pieces of 1/4" ribbon approximately 4" in length and iron the ends to the inside and tack with glue to create a finished edge.  Using the Ultrafine Metal Tip on the bottle of Fabric Dries Clear, add staggered glue dots down the piece of ribbon and sprinkle with the Lemone glitter.  Remove the excess and allow to dry.  Glue the pieces of ribbons onto the front of the box (the space left between the patterned paper pieces) in an "x" pattern as shown in the finished picture of the box.

Now, cut a circle from the "Summer Three" paper by Authentique by tracing the box lid onto the back of the paper and cut it out.  Adhere it to the lid.

Fussy cut around 2 of the butterflies and then add Designer Dries Clear Glue to the open areas (the white areas) of the butterflies.  Sprinkle them with the Confetti Vintage Glitter Glass and tap off the excess back into the jar.  Allow them to dry.  Glue them onto the top of the box.

The box is now ready to give as a joyful gift for that special wedding.  It will become a cherished piece just as the mementos that are kept inside.

Glittered Ribbon Candle Holder

Today Carrie is sharing with you what can be done with ribbon, votives, Art Glitter and Designer Dries Clear Adhesive into a fun decorative piece!
Supplies:
  1. At least 6 feet of grosgrain ribbon that's about 1 3/4" wide
  2. 5 round glass candle votives (don't get any that flare out!) - 1 3/4" in diameter and 2 1/8" tall - You can usually find these by the box in the bridal section of Michael's. (You can always adjust the ribbon-holder size if you get bigger candles)
  3. #358 - Jungle Green - Ultrafine Opaque Glitter
  4. #156 - Chartreuse Green - Ultrafine Opaque Glitter
  5. #232 - Michigan Moss Green - Ultrafine Opaque Glitter
  6. #46 - Summertree Green - Ultrafine Opaque Glitter
  7. #71 - White Gold - Ultrafine Opaque Glitter
  8. #124 - Jet Eye - Chunky Opaque Hologram Glitter
I used Designer Dries Clear Art Glitter Adhesive and the ultrafine glue tips for the finer detailed open dots.
First, cut your ribbon into two 3' strips. Then, fold one in half to create a crease. You are going to use a ball-point pen to mark lines every 2 3/4" to create 5 little "pockets" that the candles will sit in. Start in the middle and work your way out.
Flip your ribbon over so the ball point marks are on the back and start gluing little polka dots...
Start glittering with your favorite color... I started with Jet Eye...
Add the other polka dots and apply the other colors of glitter. I used the ultrafine tip attached to the glue bottle to do the final open polka dots... These tips are fantastic to give you glue flow control and add fine detail! (I always clean the tips immediately after use by soaking in hot soapy water!)
Let the polka dots all dry and then flip over, put down a thick stripe of glue on the ball point lines you made earlier and place it carefully on the other ribbon, non-decorated side to non-decorated side... Don't move, slide or smear it! Let this dry... (You could also sew these lines if you want... you do have to pull on this a bit to tie the knots etc).
After an evening of glue drying, slide in the candles, tie knots on each end, trim the ends and you're done! You can also "fake" a bow, like I did here, but folding two loops in. Since the design is one-sided, it's hard to actually tie a bow that shows off the glitter. You could glue this down, if you'd like.

This would be super cute with flower designs, stripes, sew on other ribbon scraps etc.  Be creative! Makes a great centerpiece!

Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear Fabric Adhesive
Art Glitter Elements 33 Cuttings
Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber Pitch Black
Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber Sail Boat Blue
Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber Hazelnut
Small Grapevine Wreath
Wooden St. Pat's Ornament (I bought it at Joann)
One Package of Adhesive Backed Felt Shamrocks
Staple Gun with Staples
Wire Cutter
Big Bite
Wire
Paintbrush
1/8 of a Yard of Tulle in Each Rainbow Color
A Pad of Paper
DIRECTIONS:
1)  Remove the hanger from the ornament.
2)  Paint the ornament black.  Be sure to paint on all the edges and in the crevices.  Let dry.
3)  Paint the bottom of wreath brown.  You will need to paint a little less than half and be sure to be thorough.
4)  Paint the rest of the wreath blue.  Paint it completely once, and then lightly again.
5)  While the paint is still wet, pour the Blue Boy Glitter over the top of it.  Let dry.
6)  Organize the red, orange and yellow tulle in order.  Fold each part up a little to make the color more intense and allow room for all the colors.
7)  Place behind the ornament and flip the whole thing while holding it on.
8)  Make sure that the whole thing is on top of the pad of paper.  Then, use the staple gun to staple each color in place on the ornament.  The staples will go through the ornament and leave holes in the paper pad.
9)  Repeat steps 6-8 with green, blue, (indigo if desired) and violet.

10)  The staples may not be completely through.  You can use your finger to push it in further.
11)  Flip the project over and use the wire cutters to trim the excess metal from the staples.
12)  Use the edge of closed wire cutters to push the ends over so they are flush with the wood.
13)  Use Designer Dries Clear on the "pot" part of the ornament and cover with Black Vinyl Glitter.  The glitter will help to hide the edges of the staples.  Just use the glue right over the top of them.
14)  Glue inside the shamrock and glitter with the Dazzlers Clover Leaf.  If you miss any spot the first time, just go ahead and use the glue and glitter again over that area.
15)  Glue inside the pot and cover with the Elements.  Repeat over any parts you may have missed.  Let dry.
16)  For the clovers, place on the paper pad, face down.  Remove the backing paper.
17)  Cover in green glitter of your choice.  I used Astro Turf, Wintergreen and Ensalada.  The different color of felt clovers will give you a slightly different effect, even with the same color of glitter.  This is especially true of the transparent colors.

18)  If any shamrocks don't have enough glue on the back, feel free to use the Designer Dries Clear Fabric Adhesive to glue on the glitter.
19)  Use a Big Bite to created holes in the feet of the pot of gold and attach to the wreath with wire.

20)  Attach the shamrocks to the wreath with Designer Dries Clear Fabric Adhesive.  Now this is the hardest part--WAIT for it to DRY!

21)  Wrap and tie the tulle around the wreath in order.  You will be creating the effect of a rainbow and creating a top to the wreath.
22)  Hang and Enjoy!
Thanks for stopping by today.  Come check out my blog sometime at www.rememberinglifesmoments.blogspot.com .  In the meantime, glitter on!

Hair Decorations for Dancers

In my spare time I coach a high school dance team.  Like many school teams we operate on a pretty low budget, but the girls still like to change outfits and accessories to match their dances.  We are currently working on a little Latin-flavored dance with black lace gloves and I wanted some cute pink flowers for their hair.  In searching for these I ran into two problems - #1 - it is hard to find 10 of the same thing, let alone 10 in the color I wanted and #2 - even though they were only $4.00 ea, when I have to get 10 of them, that's $40 for a little hair bling.  So I decided to take a stab at making my own.....

For this project I used:  pink roses from the dollar store, Art Glitter Fabric Adhesive, Art Glitter Ultrafine glitter - Pink Diamond, Round brads, Acrylic gems, felt circles, hair clips.

Begin by removing all the leaves and plastic from the flowers so that all you are left with is the layers of fabric petals.

Using a paint brush, apply splotches of Art Glitter Fabric adhesive around the outer edges of the petals.

Waterfall the glitter over the glue while it is still wet, and shake off the excess.  I like to work over a coffee filter to catch the excess glitter.

Repeat on all the petal layers.

Place the largest section, glitter side up and run a ring of AG fabric glue around the center.

Place the next section on top of the first so that the hole in the centers line up, but the petals do not.  Hold in place for a few minutes until the glue starts to grab, then repeat with the other layers.

Run the prongs of a brad through the center hole and bend back to secure.  If I had 10 of the same color brad, these might have made cute centers.

But since I didn't, I covered the brads with acrylic gems that I had on hand.

For the clip, simply place a felt circle in between the prongs of the hair clip.  Use hot glue or E6000 to glue the felt to the back of the flower.

The girls will look spectacular when they dance tomorrow night!  And.... instead of spending $40.00 I spent less than $10.00!!
