Light It Up with Art Glitter

Today is my last post on the Art Glitter blog. I have had such a great time designing for Art Glitter. I have learned so much about their products, and have become slightly obsessive with all of it. This position has helped me grow as a person, and I have truly loved every minute of it. I want to Thank the entire Art Glitter staff for all of the support, inspiration, and glittery goodness over the past year. It has been a fun, rewarding experience.

My life is always an adventure, and since we are here in Hawaii, I am going to be living more of the Hawaiian way... a slower pace, relaxing, and I want to see as much as I can while we are here, so my time will be more limited. I promise I will not stop crafting or using glitter. Glitter will ALWAYS be a part of me.

For my last project, I wanted to do something fun, a little recycled, and glittery (duh, isn't that what this is all about)!

I made party lights, perfect for spring and summer!

Products used:
Art Glitter: Ultrafine Opaque in #355 Sunrise, #44 Kelly, #233 Blue Hawaii, Chunky Opaque Hologram in #124 Jet Eye.
Designer Dries Clear Adhesive
Christmas Lights or Party Lights
Egg Cartons. At least as many "eggs" as you have lights. My strand had 25 lights, so I used three dozen egg cartons.
Spray Paint - I went with white (if you want to alter the egg carton colors)
Paint brush
knife to cut, I used a pocket knife since that is what I could find. (gotta love moving).

I started with the egg cartons. I used the paper ones, since I was planning on spray painting them. Spray painting on the Styrofoam ones do not work as well since spray paint eats at the Styrofoam. So I cut them apart and laid them out on a piece of cardboard outside.

I then sprayed them with spray paint. This is tricky since they kind of blow around because they are so light weight. But I did a couple coats. The cartons really soak up the spray, but I wanted them to be a little lighter color.

After they dried overnight, it was humid in Hawaii so it took a little longer, I began to add the glitter. I knew that I wanted to alternate between the three glitters I chose so I did at least 8 of each color.

I painted Designer Dries Clear Adhesive around the edges of the egg carton, and then dunked them into the glitter to cover them.

Now after those dried, I needed to add the lights. I took my knife, and cut an "x" in the bottom of each "flower".

Then inserted the party lights. I had pretty large lights so I had to make a bigger "x" but do it based on the size of your lights. You want it so the light goes in, but won't slip off.  If need be, you could adhere the light to the base of your flower so it doesn't move with hot glue.

I still wanted to add more glitter at this point, probably because there are so many beautiful Art Glitter colors. I have been wanting to use the Chunky Opaque Hologram Glitter, because it is my favorite. So I busted out my Jet Eye. It may be true love, since I love its super bling. I painted the tip of the light with Designer Dries Clear Adhesive, and just dipped it into the container.

The next step was to hang them up! Here are a bunch of amazing pictures of the final project.

Thank you all for your kind feedback over the year. This was a fun project and a great way to welcome Spring, and all those Back Yard Barbeques coming up! Now please stop by my blog oneheartscrapper, for another glitter project. I will also be sharing a story on why glitter is so important to me.

Have a wonderfully glittery year, and good luck to the New Design Team!! I can't wait to see what they have created!!

Let Your Glitter Shine

Art Glitter works so well on a variety of mediums but I love the look of it on glass. It is an easy and fun way to make any piece of glass sparkle! I wanted to make some super fun votive candle holders for my table, of course Art Glitter was my first choice.

Products used:
-Art Glitter: Ultrafine Opaque, I used the following colors; #154 Twig, #21 Orchid, #351 Pink Diamond, #361 Cat Eyes, #353 Provence, #56 Pumpkin, #83 Silver, #233 Blue Hawaii, #234 Turquoise, #48 Emerald, #256 Purple Passion, & #356 Grape Nector
-Designer Dries Clear Adhesive
-Votive Candles
-Paintbrush

Glass may be one of my favorite mediums for Art Glitter. You may remember the Glittered Wine Glasses  for the new year. You want to begin by applying  Designer Dries Clear Adhesive to the glass. I us a paint brush for more even distribution.

This is a two step process  doing one half of the holder,  then the other.  I usually squeeze some adhesive on the glass, use the paintbrush to distribute over the glass. Next, cover with glitter and  shake off the excess. Then do the rest of the holder in the same way; brush on the adhesive, shake on the glitter and brush off. This is the result.

Or here shown in #356 Purple Passion

shown in #233 Blue Hawaii

I love the look with the variety of colors.  With Cinco de Mayo just around the corner it would be very festive for table decorations. Great for weddings as well.

Bunny Fun

Spring is just around the corner, and when I saw these bunnies, I think they were just telling me to glitter them.

Supplies Used:
Designer Dries Clear Adhesive
Art Glitter in #12 Lush Pink Ultrafine Opaque, #23 Periwinkle Ultrafine Opaque, #103 Jonquil Ultrafine Transparent
Paintbrush
Ceramic bunnies

I started with the smaller of the two bunnies. I brushed on Designer Dries Clear Adhesive in patches and added the glitter as i went along. I covered the entire bunny, but left the center of the ears.

I then used the Jonquil glitter in the ears.

Once I finished the first one, I glittered the larger bunny in a different color. I wanted them to remind me spring was coming (even though it feels like summer every day here in Hawaii).

They make a perfect pair! These would even look super cute in a babies room!

I hope you enjoyed these cute little bunnies. Be sure to stop by my blog, one.heart.scrapper. for another glittery project.

Picture Perfect Glitter

This post is about frames and glitter. I wanted to share with you more than one way to glitter a frame. I am going to show you four different options when it comes to glittering your framed masterpieces.

All four methods are super simple. I am going to walk you through the first three, and explain the last one the best I can.

First.

The traditional glittered frame.

Products used:
#70 Moondust, Ultrafine Opaque Glitter
Designer Dries Clear Adhesive
Picture Frame
Paintbrush.

Simple. Using the paintbrush spread Designer Dries Clear onto the top of the frame (take out the glass while doing this).

Pour on glitter of choice, totally digging #70 Moondust!

Viola!

Second.

Glittering the Mat.

Products Used:
#97 Nirvana Ultrafine Transparent
Designer Dries Clear Adhesive
Picture Frame (with Mat)
Paintbrush

Remove the mat. Brush on Designer Dries Clear Adhesive. Pour on Glitter.

Be sure to dust off all excess glitter before you put it in the frame, so you get the minimum of glitter on the glass. Then put mat in frame with photo.

And complete.

Third.

Glittering the Edges.

Products Used:
#30 Royale Ultrafine Opaque Glitter
Designer Dries Clear Adhesive
Frame with wide edges
Painter's Tape
Paintbrush

Tape the front of the frame. Paint the outside edges of the frame with Designer Dries Clear Adhesive. I recommend doing one side at a time. Pour on glitter. Shake and dust off.

Amazing.

Fourth.

Glittering Behind the Image.

Products Used:
#624 Chocolatta Fine Vintage Class Glitter
Designer Dries Clear Adhesive
Piece of paper cut to fit the inside of the frame
Paintbrush
pencil
(and a frame too)

Trace around your image onto the piece of paper where you would like it to be inside where the mat would be. (Sorry I don't have pictures of these steps!) Remove image and brush Designer Dries Clear from the line out (to where the mat would hit (or further if you want to be safe).  Sprinkle on the glitter. Adhere the image to the paper. Fit in frame.

Be sure to dust off the glitter. I did not do so in this one, and you can see that some of the glitter is having its own little party on the back side of the glass.

I hope you can find a way to incorporate one of these fun ways to glitter up some frames in your own home. For another fun glitter project, be sure to stop on over to my blog, one.heart.scrapper. today!
