There's No Place Like Home - With Trudy

Hi Everyone!
Hope you have all recuperated from your Independence Day activities. :)

True :D here and it's my turn to share a sparkly project with you.

A couple of weeks ago, my brother-in-law Bobby and sister-in-law Diane came to visit from Oregon. One of Di's best friends asked her to bring her back a ruby slipper from Kansas. You know...like the ruby slipper Dorothy wore in The Wizard of Oz.
Well, we went to several different gift shops in a couple of towns, and even a museum gift shop, but couldn't find a singe ruby slipper.
My motto as a crafter is "If you can't find it, make it!"
So that is just what I did!

First, I sculpted a slipper out of oven-bake clay, baked it, then painted it with acrylic paints.

Next, working an area at a time, I coated it with Designer Dries Clear adhesive then D52 Rockettes Dazzlers. I filled in the spaces with  #119 Cranberry Ultra -fine Opaque glitter.
I added a glitzy red bow and a gem brad and voila! One Ruby slipper coming right up!

I got a "thank you" note from my sister-in-law's friend the other day and she said she will cherish it forever. How sweet! :)

You know...I think this would work great on real shoes too if you ever need to glitz them up for a special occasion.  :)

  3. Fabulous ruby slipper and you are just too clever to have sculpted, painted and glittered it. Great storytime activity if I use those clear plastic wedding shower shoes I saw at the craft store. Mahalo for the idea.

  5. How cool that you could make one!! I'm surprised there weren't any in the stores near you? Perhaps you should make and market these? ;)
