True's "Hippy" Hemp and Glitter Necklace

True here and today, instead of a card, I am going to share a fun wearable art project with you.

I created an easy to make necklace with a 1 1/2" wooden circle shape and a few beads, that can be purchased at any hobby store.

I started out by picking a few assorted colors and styles of glitter to add visual and tactile interest. I have some beautiful hydrangeas in my garden right now and am in love with the colors, so I chose colors that mimic them. #D56 Dragonfly Dazzlers, #807 Black Vail Small Glass Beads, #924 Vienna Vintage Glass Shards Glitter, plus 2 others that I didn't get in the photo which are #109 Cavalado, and #115 Heather Ultra fine Opaque Glitters.

I started out by drawing squiggles of Designer Dries Clear Adhesive on random areas of the wooden circle (I drilled a small hole before I started), then sprinkled the adhesive with my first color of glitter.

I continued applying glue then glitter until the entire surface was covered. I made sure to press all of the glitter into the glue.

After the glue had dried, I applied several coats of a gloss sealer, allowing it to dry between applications.

I took all of the loose glitter that was left from the front, mixed it together, and finished the back by coating the entire circle with adhesive, then glitter, and again with gloss sealer.

I used some natural hemp cord that I got at Really Reasonable Ribbon, and some large holed assorted beads and strung the necklace. I tied a knot between each bead and after the last one on either side so they will all stay in place.
