The key to glittering is ...

Hi there! Linda here again with another glittery post for Art Glitter, using Dreamweaver Stencils and the double-glitter technique. The more I play with the stuff the more I like it.

My friend Laura, who is also a member of this Art Glitter Design Team, and I were chatting one night about Kc’s (also a design team member here) card she posted here and I thought the masking was amazing. Laura replied she thought Kc was the queen of masking. Thus, my personal challenge began to improve my double-glitter technique. I must admit, patience and practice do lead to improvement and that was the key for me.

Here’s what I used:

Dreamweaver Stencil Heart Lock LG672

Art Glitter Sticky Paper

Dreamweaver Handmade Hawaiian Soap (DHHS

Monarch Microfine Opaque, 501

Martian Ultrafine Opaque Hologram, 369

Glade Microfine Transparent, 718

Navy Ultrafine Opaque, 27

Aged Gold Microfine Opaque, 517

Fawn Microfine Transparent, 728

Cardstock

Adhesive

Brayer

Post-it Notes

I started with Dreamweaver Stencil LG672, Heart Lock. After soaping the back with Dreamweaver Handmade Hawaiian Soap (DHHS) and brushing off the little crumbs I placed the stencil soap-side down onto Art Glitter Sticky Paper. Then I got out my stack of Post-it Notes for masking. Repositionable tape can be used for masking as well but I find I always have a supply of Post-it Notes handy. I placed the Post-it Notes over areas I wanted to protect from other colors of glitter.

When all open areas were protected except the one I wanted to glitter, I sprinkled on the glitter (Monarch Microfine Opaque, 501). I tapped off the excess and made sure to brush loose glitter off of  the masks before removing them from the stencil. (bits of glitter will fall into unprotected areas if left on the notes).

I continued  the masking process until I had all my colors down – trust me, this gets easier with practice. The vine is done with Martian Ultrafine Opaque Hologram, 369 and the key hole uses Glade Microfine Transparent, 718.

The top portion of this stencil is finished off with Navy Ultrafine Opaque, 27 the I used Aged Gold Microfine Opaque, 517 for the key. Then I brushed away all excess glitter and flipped the stencil over so it was on the clean table and I was looking at the backing paper. I gently lifted the paper off the stencil to prevent the stencil from bending. This is a very important step.  If the stencil bends it makes it more difficult to reuse for this and other techniques.

I ended up with a nice stenciled design and a white sticky back. I filled in the back by water falling a contrasting glitter, Fawn Microfine Transparent, 728  over the entire piece.

I then trimmed and mounted my design onto cardstock to create a card.

Hop on over to my blog to catch another double-glitter/stencil design http://linda-neff.com
Happy glittering!  Linda

I hope you are all enjoying this fun month using the Double Glitter Technique. Today I am going to share with you another fun card using the LJ 806 Hexagons Stencil.
I have seen so many amazing projects using hexagons, and I here is the card I made using this fabulous stencil.
I used the following products:

Dreamweaver Stencil LG 806 Hexagons

Black & White Cardstock

Black Rickrack

100% Natural Soap

I started by soaping the back of the stencil. If you have not seen the Double Glitter Technique video, please check it out. I put the stencil soaped side down onto the Adhesive Paper that I mounted on cardstock and poured on #304 Dew Berry.

I rubbed in the glitter with my fingers.

I shook off the glitter, flipped it over so it was stencil side down and peeled the adhesive paper off of the stencil.
Then I covered the glitter side with #360 Pretty Pink.

After shaking off the excess I got this beautiful hexagon pattern.

I decided I wanted to have some fun with this pattern, so I cut around the hexagons until I got a look that I liked!
I mounted it on black card stock.
I cut around the black, adding in a few more hexagons for  fun, and placed on white card stock. I added some Rickrack before placing the design that completesd the look of the fun hexagon card.
I hope you enjoyed my card today! Be sure you have entered the challenge going on at Dreamweaver Stencils Blog! To see another card using the Double Glitter Technique, please stop by my blog, http://oneheartscrapper.blogspot.com.

Happy Glittering!

Fantasy Film Melted over Dreamweaver Stencil Technique is much fun! Of course melting Fantasy Film is always fun!

This is the first thing I thought of when we learned of our partnership with Dreamweaver stencils. I had a couple in my stash already and immediately started burning film with them. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before!

Things U Need
Art Glitter Fantasy Film, any color
Dreamweaver Stencil
Tape
Awl
Material to poke into
needle nose pliers (2 if possible)
candle
patience

First let's talk about the right stencil design for this technique. You will want a design that does not have tiny details in it. You will not get an exact interpretation of your stencil design. Something with with small open areas, but not thin lines works pretty well. Abstract designs are perfect too!

Tape one layer of Fantasy Film onto your stencil. Make sure film does not fold over to other side, you do not want to spend hours peeling little pieces of bonded film off your stencil later, just one simple layer. (Not that I may have done that...) Place stencil side up on some material. Using your awl, make little punctures in each little area, creating an air vent for your candle flame to go through. Move quickly through design, it almost doesn't matter where the hole is.

Turn stencil over with film side on top. Hold over candle flame (a breezeless environment is best), with pliers, stencil will get hot. Move stencil/film up and down towards flame until holes begin to form. Resist the temptation to burn it all away! Move around design until your piece is pleasing to you.

Dreamweaver Stencil: LX7014 Daisy Background and Art Glitter Fantasy Film: Strawberry
Set aside and let cool, about 1 minute. Pull tape off and now you have a multicolored background or focal piece for your next project. There will be residual soot left on your stencil as seen above. It washes off easily with soap and water, but will stay on film.

Dreamweaver Stencil: LX 7007 Leaves and Art Glitter Fantasy Film: Blue Nile

Here's an example of an open design with lots of stippling to facilitate the heat.

Pretty cool, but photo does not do this example justice, the reflection shows a shimmering multi-colored star in the middle. Please check out my blog: blogbyemm.com for more examples, and "mistakes" as shown in the first photo of this posting. I've started a little collage piece with the example above, I'll have the finished piece soon on my blog.

I must make a quick statement. I have to admit, I have really put my Dreamweaver stencils through a lot of abuse and they have held up beautifully with a little TLC. I'm very happy and very impressed with Dreamweaver products. Enjoy!  ~emm

Today I'm making a "Congratulations" wedding cake card using the double glitter method.

Here is what you'll need:

  1. 3 piece of 6" x 6" Bristol Paper
  2. 6 pieces of 8 1/2 x 11 assorted color card stock or construction paper
  3. 1 piece of vellum paper or an envelope to cut up
  4. 1 piece of 8 1/2 x 11 card stock
  5. 1 piece of 8 1/2 x 11 sticky paper (full sheet label paper where the back peels off). They use double sided sticky paper in the instructional video below, but it's not necessary.
  6. Watercolors, chalk pastels, paint or markers (Something to color and draw with!)
  7. Scissors
  8. Glue - I use Designer Dries Clear adhesive from Art Institute
  9. Embossing Glue - I used 3D Embossit by Art Glitter
  10. Dreamweaver stencil - I used LX 7001 Damask
  11. A little bit of natural soap that is soft (Explanation in the video below)
  12. Art Institute Glitter - Fine Glass Glitter #618 Peapod
  13. Art Institute Glitter - Fine Glass Glitter #609 Grape Arbor
  14. Art Institute Glitter - Fine Glass Glitter #615 Thistle
  15. Art Institute Glitter - #89 Martini Ultrafine Transparent Glitter
  16. Art Institute Glitter - #83 Silver Opaque Ultrafine Glitter
  17. 6 rhinestones - 3 large, 3 small
  18. Flower petal paper punch
  19. On oval stencil or a steady hand
  20. 6" strip of ribbon
  21. Hot glue gun
First, you'll want to watch this video on the double glitter technique...

Now, we're ready to get started...

First, I glued down my sticky paper, non-sticky side down, to a piece of plain card stock. After this is dry, cut it to 5 1/4" x 5 1/4". I also cut a piece of periwinkle construction paper to 6" x 6". This will be the back of your card (but don't glue them together just yet).

Next, soap up the back of your stencil (as shown in the video), remove the backing of your sticky paper so the sticky side is up and carefully put your stencil soap side down.

I then scooped some of the #609 Grape Arbor down and carefully pressed it into the stencil. Tap off the purple.

After I carefully removed the paper from the stencil, this is what it looked like!

Then, I made a second pass with the clear #89 Martini glitter. I love how the purple pops through!

This looks like a lot of stuff... this is what I made for the card in this step:
  1. An oval with a dark purpley-eggplant bottom with gingham top. The top is watercolor and the bottom is acrylic paint.
  2. A three-tier wedding cake. I used white acrylic paint with purple shadow accents and a periwinkle fondant ribbon on the bottom of each tier.
  3. A little cake stand that I painted silver.
  4. Some background colors in orange gingham and solid purple colors for the punched out flowers.
  5. A 1/2" thick strip of vellum cut about 5" long
I cut each element out and added three rhinestones to the cake.

To give the cake the look of decorated fondant, I used the 3D Embossit and added dots of Peapod, Thistle and Grape Arbor glitter. I also added dots and swirls of the 3D Embossit to the white areas and put the clear Martini glitter over that.

Here's what the cake looked like finished.

Here are all the elements, ready to glue down. The flower petals, the leaves (flower petals cut in half. These were covered in the Peapod fine glass glitter). Some have already been glued down like the piece of ribbon down onto the glittered damask and then that entire piece was glued down to the periwinkle 6" x 6" piece of paper.
I punched out flower petals in the different purple colors and in the orange and orange gingham. I glued down rhinestones inside the center-most flower petals, outlined the cake background oval in Silver glitter, wrote "Congratulations" on the little vellum banner and got it folded and ready to glue down.
And here is what it looked like all put together:
