Heart of Fire - Faux Opal Pendant

Most of my glitter collection is made up of Art Glitter Ultra Fine glitters.  I love all the colors and the brilliant sparkle!  But I am absolutely mesmerized by the dazzlers and chunkier styles.  My project today encases Dazzler Glitter and Faux Snow in a resin to create a faux opal effect.

For this project I used:  Art Glitter Dazzlers - #62 Treasure (my fave!!), Art Glitter Faux Snow, Deep bezel pendant (from Metal Gallery), Lisa Pavelka Magic-Glos UV Resin.  UV Light (optional, but very helpful!),  Toothpicks.

Begin by adding UV resin to the interior of the bezel.

Spoon a little Treasure Dazzlers into the bezel.

Use a toothpick to mix the glitter and resin, adding more resin as necessary.  Spread the mixture evenly over the base of the bezel.  Be sure to wipe any excess off the rim of the bezel.  Set under a UV light or direct sunlight - 5 - 10 minutes.  Resin is set when you cannot dent it with your fingernail.

Add more resin to the bezel and spoon in a little Faux Snow.

Again use a toothpick to mix the resin and snow and spread a layer over the gold layer.  Make this layer a little uneven in spots so the the gold shows through here and there.

The glitter & resin mixture will be lumpy at this point.  Press it down a little so you don't have any pieces that stick out of the resin.  Wipe the bezel edges clean, and set under UV Lamp or direct sunlight.

To finish, add a generous layer of resin.  Use a toothpick to draw the resin out to the edges of the bezel.  It is self-leveling, so it will form a nice rounded, glass-like surface.  Use a pin or toothpick to remove any air bubbles that form before setting this layer under UV lamp or direct sunlight.

Once the resin is set.  Simply add a jump ring (or two) and put the pendant on your favorite chain.

Easter Eggs That Sparkle

Are you ready to add a little glitter to your Easter basket?  Today I'm glittering up a couple of Easter Eggs.  These eggs are real eggs that have had the yoke blown out.  You could use these same techniques on plastic, paper mache or ceramic eggs.  I wouldn't recommend it on eggs you intend to eat, for two reasons:  #1 - it would be tough to shell this egg and not end up with glitter on your hard-boiled egg, and #2 (more importantly) why would you want to destroy your art???
Begin by drawing your design onto your egg with a pencil or light colored Sharpie.  I used a silver Sharpie here so that it would show up better for illustration purposes.   If you use a blown-out egg, you have a hole at the top and bottom of the egg.  Use a wooden skewer to hold the egg while you work.  This will hopefully keep your fingers out of your design.

Use a metal fine tip applicator on a bottle of Art Glitter Body Glue and carefully trace your design.  Don't go to heavy with the glue or it will run off the rounded surface.  Once you've traced your whole design, set the egg aside to dry.  The glue is dry when it turns clear.

Use a dry brush and your first color of Art Glitter Ultra Fine Glitter - in this case Pink Diamonds.  Brush the glitter onto the desired sections of the design.

Continue adding shades of glitter to your design.  Here I've added Country red to the teardrops and Pumpkin to the bottom sections of the "S"s.

The top sections of the S's were finished with Art Glitter Old Gold

For this design, I made some simple 5 petal flowers and dots with the glue.  I brushed Pink Diamonds glitter onto the dots and the outer edges of the flowers.  Then I filled the centers of the flowers with Old Gold and then added some "leaves" in glue that were covered in Emerald Green glitter.

I am now totally addicted to glittering Easter Eggs and heading out to buy some more eggs!

Happy Easter all!!

Christmas Gift hat Sparkles!T

Looking for a unique, personalized gift?  How about a glittering monogrammed purse hanger.  These are great when you are in a restaurant and don't want to put your purse one the floor or hang it on the back of your chair.  They make great gifts for teachers, co-workers, friends & family.

You will need:
Blank Purse hangers - (I found these on Ebay, but I think Hobby Lobby carries something similar) Art Glitter Ultra Fine Glitter (any color), Globecraft Memories Glastique Gloss, Alphabet stickers - smaller than 1" in diameter.

Begin by putting a puddle (about the size of a quarter) of Glastique in the center of the purse hanger.

Add about 1/2 teaspoon of your favorite color of Art Glitter and carefully mix into the Glastique with a toothpick.

Use the toothpick to spread the glitter mixture evenly over the bottom of the purse hanger and set aside to dry.

Once dry, add desired letter sticker.  Be sure to press it down completely so no air bubbles will form under it.

Add another layer of Glastique, completely filling the recessed area.  Set aside to dry over night on a level surface.  The thicker you apply the Glastique, the longer it will take to dry.  It is set when it is completely clear.

Tada!

How easy was that?!!

Thanks for checking this out!

Ready for Christmas Fun

Well...Halloween is behind us, so you know what that means....time to get ready for Christmas!  So today I'm sharing a very quick and simple Christmas card idea.

I started with some retro felt ornaments from Creative Impressions - Christmas Ornament Assortment.

I used a piece of Art Glitter Sticky paper - 4.25" x 5.5".  After removing the protective sheet - I positioned the felt ornaments on the sticky side of the paper.

Then I used Art Glitter ultra fine glitter (#85 - Crystal)  to fill in the open areas of the ornaments - rubbing the glitter into the sticky paper.  Once the interior areas of the ornaments were finished, I covered the rest of the exposed sticky paper with Crystal glitter.

This glitter covered sheet was then attached to a piece of red foil card stock.

I was going to leave it at that, but then decided I needed to have a little gold for the hangers.  I used a metal fine tip on the Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear Adhesive on the tops of the ornaments and drew lines from the top of the ornaments to the top of the card.

I covered the lines and ornament tops with Art Glitter ultra fine glitter - #139 Leather.

There is nothing better that glitter to add that extra special sparkly touch to all your holiday crafting!  Please visit my blog for more glittering Christmas craft ideas!

Thanks!

Spooky Spider Ornament with KC

I HATE spiders!!  But as much as I hate them, I really can't stand the sound of squishing them.  I have been known to trap them under a glass or something until I can convince someone else in the house to kill them.  So for a creepy little Halloween decoration, I have encased this little guy - web and all!

For this project you will need:
From Art Glitter:  Ultra Fine Opaque Glitters - #79 - Black, #299 - Celery and #314 - Dew Berry, and,   of course, Designer Dries Clear Adhesive (DDCA)
From Globe Craft Memories:  2 Clear Globes/bubbles and  2 oval frames from DIY Portrait ornament Kit.
Other supplies:  ATC from Clear Scraps Acrylic, Spider Web Stamp.  Purple Stazon Ink, Black Ribbon, 4 Ribbon Sections from Want2Scrap - Fleur de Lis, Black ribbon for hanger. 2 Plastic spiders from dollar store Halloween decorations.  (if you can't find plain spiders, you can cut the ring part off 2 spider rings)
Use an old paintbrush to paint DDCA on the spiders

Sprinkle the spiders with Black Glitter while the glue is still wet.  Set aside to dry.

Stamp the spider web in the center of the acrylic ATC card using Stazon Ink.

While the ink is still wet, sprinkle with Dew Berry Glitter.  Let the ink dry completely before brushing excess glitter off.

Lay one of the Globe Craft frames on the acrylic so that the web is centered.  Use a Sharpie to trace outside the frame on the acrylic and then trim off the excess corners.

Brush one side of the frame with DDCA

Using a small spoon sprinkle Dew Berry glitter around the inside of the frame.  Tap off the excess.  Then cover the rest of the frame with Celery Glitter.  Repeat on the other frame.

Use DDCA to glue one spider to the center of the web.

Glue the frames to the Globes.  Glue one of the frames over the spider & web.

Once both halves have dried, glue them together - sandwiching black ribbon at the top to create a loop for hanging.  Trim the 4 sections of the Fleur de Lis ribbon.  Glue one at the top of the ornament and position one at the back so that the tops meet.

Glue two more at the bottom.

Glue the second spider at the top as if he is trying to free his buddy.

I find spiders just a little less creepy when they are covered in glitter!  (the fact that they are plastic helps too)

Bangle and Butterflies

One of my favorite things about Fall is Monarch Butterflies.  For the last few years, my daughter and I have collected Monarch caterpillars and kept them until they emerged as beautiful butterflies.  It is really a wonderful miracle to watch and I highly recommend it!  In honor of these beautiful creatures I have created several projects this month with a butterfly theme.  I am thrilled to share this Glittered Butterfly Bangle project with you.

For this project I used:  Bangle blank from DIY Bangles, Copper metallic acrylic paint, Distressed Inks - Forest Moss & Bundled Sage,  Palette Ink - Noir, Happily Grateful Stamps from Red Rubber Designs, Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear Adhesive, Art Glitter Ultra Fine Opaque Gliter - #56 Pumpkin, Acrylic sealer.

Start by painting the inside of the bangle with copper acrylic paint.

Use a dauber or make-up sponge to sponge a mix of distressed ink on the outside of the bangle.

Use the same distressed inks to stamp leaves randomly around the bangle.

Use Black Palette ink to stamp butterflies around the bracelet in a random pattern.

Using a fine tip on the DDCA, fill the blank areas of the butterfly wings with adhesive.

Coat the adhesive with Ultrafine Glitter

Continue with the adhesive and glitter until all of the butterflies have been glittered.

Once the adhesive is dry, finish with a coat of acrylic sealer.

Thanks!
